Smokescreen
By Andrew Bayuk

I don’t want to go to war
I just can’t take it, just can’t fake it.
I don’t want to fight for oil
You can’t fool me

I’ll always defend my home
But that’s not the reason; it’s your own treason
Lying right to our own
About your war

Just tell me, don’t sell me
How does this protect us, nobody respects us
Our trouble, now double
The enemy is breeding, their philosophy is seeding

I don’t want to go to this war
Fight the wrong enemy, no don’t send me
I think we'd better settle the score
With the gathering storm.

You know that if you tell the truth
The People won’t take it, they’d just forsake
And you know if you told the truth
It’d be curtains for you.

Illegal, unseemly
Innocent civilians, sent there to protect them
The Mayhem, the ravage
Calling little children collateral damage.

Because I really love my home
I’ll always defend it, never rear-end it.

Can you really say the same
with your draft dodging games?

Still I respect the troops.
So bring them home safely, they went and fought bravely
They give their life for you
But you won’t give them the truth

Those weapons, where are they,
then you say dictator - what will it be later?
Now freedom, still cheat ‘em
You’ve caused them major chaos
Is that why they now hate us?

I don’t want to go to war
I just can’t take it, just can’t fake it.
I don’t want to fight for oil
You can’t fool me

I don't want to go this war
to fight the wrong enemy, no don't send me.
I'd really rather settle the score
with the perpetrator.
