El Deir El Bahary
A joined team of SCA archaeologists together with the members of the Polish
mission working in Egypt are conserving and restoring El Deir El Bahary
Temple. Completion of the work is due in February. The compartments of the
third floor are to be restored with the saint of the saint's niche. Missing
parts are to be added to their original places. The walls are to be rebuilt
with their genuine parts. The second floor is to be paved and the stairs
repaired. The enclosure is subject to restoration. Work had started in July
1998. Many tourists annually visit El Deir El Bahary Temple.
Various Projects
Various projects are to be accomplished in Shenhour, Koss and Keft Temples
mainly the erection of enclosures to surround and protect these temples. A new
magazine is under construction in Keft.The table water in Abydos is to be
taken care of. SCA is assigning contractors specialized each in his domain to
accomplish such projects and necessary funds are set for this purpose.
Regarding Lower Egypt similar projects are overviewed. An enclosure shall be
built around the famous Pillar in Alexandria (El Sawari) and around Tell Basta,
Zagazig.
Ba Nehsi tomb in Matareya
Table water affecting the area will be treated first. Tomb's stones will be
reconstructed after their dismantle and their reparation. The ground level
shall be lifted up with more dry material. The whole area then will be set
with appropriate monuments to be displayed. The site shall be ready for visit
by June 2000.
Second phase for Edfu Temple restoration
The Temple is under restoration as from July 1999. Contractors are to be
assigned to prepare the surrounding area in order to fit the importance of
such a great monument. The actual entrance is to be changed. Services for
tourists will be guaranteed and the enlightenment of the Temple secured. The
adjacent Tell shall be equipped with a monumental display matching with the
general atmosphere of the place. Completion of the work is due in June 2000.
Ptah Temple, El Karnak
Restoration and development is guaranteed to this Temple as from July 1999.
The temple is prepared to receive its visitors as from June 2000 after the
exploration of the cozy way leading to the temple and its restoration.
Enlightenment is secured and the site arranged to serve its purposes.
Old and Middle Kingdom Tombs
Located west of Aswan, these tombs as from July 1998 are under restoration.
Stairs leading to these tombs are enlightened and the wall scenes restored
with all required precision. This project is due in June 2000.
Kom Oshim Temples, Fayum
As from July 1998, the Eastern and western Temples in Kom Oshim are subject to
meticulous restoration. Completion is due in June 2000.
